Sunday July 15th, 2007 - After spending 2 days and
lots of time in a van (playing name that tune, telling
stories and talking about Bob's man-purse), we
finally arrived in Pan Di Vida. We celebrated worship
with our brothers and sisters there, had lunch and
then packed up the kids and adults that were going
with us, and headed for the "Garden of Eden" camp
which was our home base for music camp week. We
had no idea what amazing things God would show us
while we were there...
Monday July 16th - After unloading Sunday night and worship to close the
day, we got up Monday morning ready to begin teaching music. We
brought many instruments including guitars, flutes, recorders, keyboards, a
trumpet and the easiest instrument to carry - voice! We were amazed at
how quickly the children picked up the chords and rhythm of the song of
the day. We taught one song a day beginning with "Ven Es Hora Adorarle."
I didn't mention this before but we spent months preparing for this trip by
learning how to sing all of
the songs in Spanish. It was a labor of love and we hoped that the kids
could still understand us even with our "southern spanish" accents. One of
the interpreters also was kind enough to teach us more Spanish while we
were at the camp. I can't wait to learn more.

Tuesday July 17th - Today's song was "Solo
Meh Imagino." God's presence is heavy in this
place - it is so peaceful and beautiful here. It
rained in the afternoon yesterday and today and
the weather has been just right. The children
have amazing abilities and God is multiplying
their gifts before our eyes. This afternoon, the
adults learned vocal warm-up techniques and
how to flip the voice from the chest to the head,
and how to match pitches. They are doing such
a good job. We are so proud of what they have
accomplished in such a short time. Music takes a
long time to learn and our friends have done in
two days what many can't do in a year.

Wednesday July 18th - Today's song is "Abres
Los Cielos Hoy." Each day as we add a song, we
have been going over the other songs we have
learned. Instead of teaching chord names, which
don't really translate, we have taught using the
"Fixed Do" or "Solfege" method. Do is C, Re is D
and so on. By now the children and the adults are
all able to read the chord name on a chart, know
where it is on their instrument and play it. We had
the most incredible worship I have ever been
witness to on this evening. The power of the Holy
Spirit and God's love for us was almost tangible.
We miss our families but also feel sad because
we don't want to leave our new and wonderful
family in Mexico. God has blessed us here.

Thursday July 19th - We packed up at the camp
and left to return to Pan Di Vida. We stopped at
our beautiful waterfall on the way home and did a
little shopping. We checked into our hotel and got
cleaned up for the presentation at worship that
night. The children and adults got to present the
three songs that they had learned during the
week to their families and friends. They did a
great job and we are so proud of everything they
have accomplished. I can't wait to come back and
see how far they've come after a few months of
playing. Our hearts hurt because we are leaving
our dear friends but I hope and pray that we will
see them soon. Glorious De Dios!
